Green Bay Packers: Jason Vrable Says WR1 Jayden Reed is Already Taking on Leadership Role for…

Jayden Reed is at peace with his standing in the Green Bay Packers wide receiver corps. So at peace he is helping the younger ones become acclimated to the system.

Green Bay Packers wide receiver Romeo Doubs (87) celebrates scoring a touchdown with wide receiver Christian Watson (9), wide receiver Jayden Reed (11) and running back Emanuel Wilson (31) against the Arizona Cardinals during their football game Sunday, October 13, 2024, at Lambeau Field in Green Bay, Wisconsin.

The Packers picked two wide receivers in the recently concluded NFL draft – Matthew Golden and Savion Williams. Then just this Wednesday, they signed free agent sophomore Jadon Janke, raising the number of their WRs to 12.

Despite the obvious tight competition – this season and the years to come – third year player Reed is happily assisting the new signings.

Packers passing game coordinator Jason Vrable said it is him taking an active role as a leader.

“Probably the biggest growth is the way his leadership has been right now,” Vrabke said.

“I really want to commend him because he’s standing behind Matthew Golden right now helping him out with every single play. He’s going over with Mecole Hardman, who just got here, and he’s the one guy right now that I feel – all our guys, the brotherhood is strong right now – but he is like, ‘I’m going out of my way,’ because he is a natural leader, and he always has been.”

Reed is just coming off a torn labrum injury.

Green Bay Packers WR situation

Reed reportedly talked to general manager Brian Gutekunst a few days to get clarification about his standing with the team.

Such move is understandable based on the recent moves they made in the draft. Even Christian Watson’s father was not too approving of the Packers’ decision to draft two wide receivers as he is undergoing rehab for his ankle injury.

NBC reported that the GM Gutekunst assured Reed’s agent Drew Rosenhaus that the 25-year-old’s standing with the team will not be affected by the new arrivals.

The team had five active wide receivers in the playoffs last time and they all returned to the team for 2025. Training camp will be interesting.
