Newcastle take lead in race for Chelsea’s top defender target

Chelsea are keen to improve their defensive unit this summer. They have already been linked to multiple players across whole Europe. But, Newcastle United have taken lead over them to sign highly rated Premier League defender.

The Blues want to sign atleast 2 top defenders this summer. They are said to part ways with Chalobah and Disasi. In addition, Veiga is also linked with exit after just one year. They may also listen to offers for Badiashile who has under performed. Lastly, the Blues can also sell Fofana due to his injury issues.

Chelsea have two players from Premier League as top targets for summer. Firstly, they are keen to sign Dean Huijsen from Bournemouth. In addition, they are keen to re-sign their academy graduate Marc Guehi from Crystal Palace. But, the Blues are trailing in both races.

Newcastle move ahead of Chelsea in race for Guehi

According to TEAMtalk, the Magpies have moved ahead of the Blues in the race for Marc Guehi. Eddie Howe is a huge admirer of the 24 year old. The manager will be backed by the club after he ended their long drought of winning major titles earlier this year.

Guehi has already made it clear that he will leave Palace this summer. He will enter the final year of his contract and hence Palace will allow him to leave too. Chelsea have shown long-term interest to sign him as the 24 year old is now one of the best defenders in Premier League.

As far as Huijsen is concerned, the situation is same for the West London club. The Blues are trailing in the race behind Real Madrid. Los Blancos have already reached an agreement with the Cherries over a potential deal. The player too has made the Spanish giants his top priority.
