Arsenal are plotting a move to sign Newcastle United star Anthony Gordon as they aim to strengthen ahead of the summer transfer window.

That is according to former Man United and Blackburn chief scout Mick Brown, who remains very well-connected within the game, as he exclusively told Football Insider that they have been keeping tabs on the 24-year-old’s situation.

The Gunners are expected to step up their efforts to sign a winger to bolster Mikel Arteta’s side amid speculation about the future of Gabriel Martinelli.

This comes after Brown told Football Insider Arsenal will listen to offers for Martinelli if they can sign a replacement in the transfer window.

They will then attempt to sign an improvement on the Brazil international, with Gordon emerging as one of the outstanding candidates for the role.

Meanwhile, Brown told Football Insider that Newcastle could accept “huge” offers for Gordon if they are forced to sell before they can buy players this summer.

Arsenal plot Anthony Gordon swoop after Martinelli exit

Brown told Football Insider on 15 April that Gordon is high on Arsenal’s list of targets as they aim to bolster their attacking options with a big-name signing.

The former scout, who has a wealth of experience in top-level player recruitment after over a decade at Man United during their most successful period, has insisted they are keeping a close eye on the Newcastle winger.

“*Arsenal are looking to strengthen out wide,*” he told Football Insider.

“We’ve spoken about Martinelli, and if he leaves they want to bring somebody in who is better than him, and there are a few names on their radar.

“One player they’ve shown interest in is Anthony Gordon.

“They’ve been looking at him, keeping an eye on his situation in case he becomes available.

“Newcastle have a bit of uncertainty about them because of their financial situation.

“If they can offer a lot of money for him, Newcastle might have to accept.

“Then, Arsenal have to decide whether the money it would take to bring him in is worth what he will bring to the team and whether he’s the right fit.

“But he’s still young and there’s a reason they’ve been looking at him for a while.”

Viktor Gyokeres update emerges at the Emirates

A new winger is not the only position the Gunners want to strengthen with in the summer transfer window, as they are also plotting a move to sign a new striker.

Football Insider revealed on 13 May that Viktor Gyokeres is the top target for Arsenal and is viewed as one of the world’s leading strikers.

It has been widely reported that Gyokeres will cost around £60million this summer and that fee will provide no problem for Arteta’s side.

However, Brown told Football Insider last month that Man United are confident of signing Gyokeres and some believe the move is already a “done deal”.
