'Huge concerns': Journalist now gives worrying update on fitness of Sven Botman after feeling…

· 15 May 2025, 10:00

**How does that saying go again, 'if it weren't for bad luck, I'd have no luck at all'? That must be how Newcastle United defender Sven Botman must be feeling right now.**

It has not been long since Botman returned to action, in fact it has only been a couple of weeks after the defender missed the bulk of the season while recovering from knee surgery, only for his comeback to be cut short due to another knee issue, and now, it looks like history is repeating.

Many fans wondered if it was too soon to put Botman back into action, given his injury issues over the past two years, especially given that there were only a few games remaining and we've managed without him for much of the season.

After the game against Chelsea on Sunday, Eddie Howe admitted that Botman was complaining of discomfort at halftime, which ultimately led to his early withdrawal.

Sven Botman to miss the rest of the season

------------------------------------------

Rumours had started to appear on social media, the classic ITK stuff, that Sven Botman had picked up another knee injury and is likely to miss the rest of the season.

I didn't want to believe it and was willing to laugh it off until Luke Edwards ruined everybody's day by posting an update on X confirming the suspicions.

Seemingly, even the ITKs get it right sometimes as Edwards suspects Botman will now miss the final two games and is going to see a specialist, yet again.

It may not be as a bad as it sounds

-----------------------------------

Knowing Eddie Howe, he will likely downplay the whole thing when he speaks to the media tomorrow morning ahead of the Arsenal game, but fans on social media are already saying it might be time to cut our losses on the 25-year-old.

Although given how long we've clung on to Callum Wilson, we don't see the club using a poor injury excuse as a good enough reason to move a player on.

Hopefully, it's not as bad as it sounds. After all, 'the rest of the season' is just two weeks, and the specialist might just say he's being paranoid, which would be understandable. We're sure he'll be back to full fitness next season. Still sucks though.
