Fabrizio Romano: Real Madrid set to hijack Arsenal move to sign 'world-class' star

Real Madrid are closing in on a deal to sign Arsenal defensive target Dean Huijsen, journalist Fabrizio Romano has revealed.

The reigning Champions League winners are reportedly in talks over the 19-year-old defender’s contract and have already reached an agreement with Bournemouth.

Real are set to pay Huijsen’s £50m release clause in three instalments and are now preparing for further discussions with the Spanish talent’s representatives, who have flown to Madrid to finalise the deal.

Huijsen has reportedly been offered a five-year contract at the Santiago Bernabeu, although the final length of the agreement is still under discussion.

Romano, writing on X, has revealed that Real Madrid have reached an agreement with Bournemouth for Huijsen’s transfer and are now negotiating personal terms with the 19-year-old.

Arsenal were among Huijsen’s long-term admirers in the Premier League and were reportedly ‘ready to trigger’ his £50m release clause this month.

However, with Real now well placed to secure the ‘world-class’ talent, Mikel Arteta’s side will likely need to look elsewhere to bolster their central defence this summer.

Huijsen has emerged as one of the most promising centre-backs in the world during his first season with Bournemouth and has been a key player for Andoni Iraola.

The 19-year-old has scored three goals and provided one assist in 33 appearances, helping Bournemouth push for a top-half Premier League finish.
