Arsenal have taken a major step forward in their pursuit of Viktor Gyokeres, with A BOLA reporting that the Sporting CP striker is now “on the verge” of joining the club.
Talks are understood to be advanced, with terms agreed as Arsenal look to finalise a deal as soon as the season ends.

Viktor Gyokeres is on the brink of completing a move to Arsenal, according to A BOLA, with the Portuguese outlet reporting that the Sporting CP striker is “on the verge of heading to Arsenal” following months of groundwork and what appears to be a decisive shift in momentum towards the Emirates.
“Saturday we will give the last push together” A BOLA 15 May 2025
The 26-year-old has scored 95 goals in 100 matches since arriving in Lisbon in 2023 and has emerged as one of the most prolific and consistent forwards in European football. Arsenal’s interest is long-standing, but the latest reporting suggests that their position has strengthened considerably in recent weeks.
Arsenal are believed to have reached an agreement in principle on personal terms, with Gyokeres set to earn around €8.3 million per year on a four or five-year contract. The proposed fee of €75 million falls within the range already outlined in prior conversations between Sporting, the player, and his agent Hasan Çetinkaya.
While Chelsea continue to monitor the situation, Arsenal’s early move appears to have given them a clear lead.

Despite the increasing likelihood of a the move, Gyokeres remains fully focused on the final matches of the season, with Sporting chasing a domestic double and the striker competing for the European Golden Shoe.
Speaking to Sporting’s club channel this week, he underlined his commitment to the final push. “The goal until the end of the season is to win the last two matches. First, all focus is on Saturday and winning that one. Then we focus on the next,” he said.
Addressing supporters directly, he added: “Thank you for the support throughout the season. It’s been incredible doing all this together. Let’s give that last push, together, on Saturday.”
The symbolism of his 100th match for Sporting, which came in the recent derby against Benfica, has not been lost. Gyokeres acknowledged the milestone, describing it as “an incredible feeling” and noting his pride at contributing to the club’s rise. “It’s gone by quickly but it’s a big mark, and we’ve still got two very important games left,” he said.

Although Chelsea have not ruled themselves out, the financial problems at Barcelona and the structured approach from Arsenal leave few credible challengers at this stage. Internally, Arsenal now view Gyokeres as their top centre-forward target, ahead of Benjamin Sesko of RB Leipzig, whose profile had previously been considered a more attainable option and is now also being linked with Chelsea.
The influence of Andrea Berta, now in post as Arsenal’s sporting director, has helped accelerate progress, with Berta a big admirer of the player.
No deal will be completed until Sporting’s season concludes on 26 May, but Arsenal’s position is strong. The terms are in place, the proposal is clear, and, crucially, the player appears convinced.
