Chelsea have been heavily linked with a move for their former defender. The player is said to be available in the transfer market due to some issues with the current club. But, the Blues have been reported to be unwilling to sign him.
The star in question here is Antonio Rudiger of Real Madrid. The 32 year old German defender joined Los Blancos on free transfer from Chelsea in 2022. Ever since his move, he has played a major role for Spanish giants. But, he has been involved in lot of issues outside the pitch.
Rudiger has been involved in fights with opponents and referees. As of now, he is suspended for throwing an ice bag at refree in El Classico. Hence, there are reports stating that Madrid may part ways with him this summer. This quickly linked the player with Premier League return.
Chelsea unwilling to sign Antonio Rudiger
Chelsea need some quality defenders in their squad. Enzo Maresca has asked the club to bring in some proven stars. As a result, Rudiger was linked with a return to Stamford Bridge. But, former Premier League scout Mick Brown has dismissed all these reports.
“Rudiger’s days at Chelsea are over. I’ve heard whispers he could leave Real Madrid when Ancelotti leaves. He’s always up for a fight, he could cause a row in a phone box, and Chelsea do need a bit of that. But he’s well into his 30s now, that’s not the type of player they’re looking at” – Mick Brown speaking to Football Insider.
“They want to bring younger players in who can develop at the club, wheter that’s right thing to do or not because experience can be valuable. Rudiger has that experience, but he doesn’t fit the age or type of player Maresca wants in his side, so like I say, that one’s unlikely” – Brown on why the Blues are not interested to sign Rudiger.
