Former Giants exec raves about ‘uber-dynamic’ rookie

The Giants were praised for a solid draft this year, which general manager Joe Schoen led off by taking Penn State edge rusher Abdul Carter with the No. 3 overall pick.

Former Giants executive Marc Ross had some nice things to say about the decision to take Carter, whom he listed in the No. 1 spot in his “10 rookies in the best situations to succeed in Year 1 and beyond.”

“The defensive line was one of the few bright spots for the Giants in 2024, with a front led by Dexter Lawrence and Brian Burns helping Big Blue tie for the eighth-most sacks (45) in the league. The addition of the uber-dynamic Carter should make the unit even better, with defensive coordinator Shane Bowen able to deploy the Giants’ three top edge rushers -- Carter, Burns and Kayvon Thibodeaux -- in multiple ways. Carter was the consensus top edge rusher in this year’s draft, boasting the skill set and tenacity to relentlessly wreak havoc on opposing quarterbacks.”

Carter joins a defense that already features Dexter Lawrence, Kayvon Thibodeaux and Brian Burns, giving the unit a chance to be truly formidable for the Giants this year.

“Yeah, we’re going to be dominant,” Carter said after he was drafted. “It’s going to be dope just getting to know those guys as a person, getting to know them as men and then getting closer as teammates, and then once we get on the field together, just wreak havoc.”
