NFL announcer makes a ‘personal appeal’ to Aaron Rodgers

Count Jim Nantz among those who are ready for Aaron Rodgers to make a decision about his future.

Though he’s been heavily linked to the Steelers, the veteran quarterback remains a free agent midway through May.

Wednesday’s schedule release revealed that the Jets will open up the season hosting the Steelers in Week 1. Other intriguing matchups for Pittsburgh include Week 13 against the Bills, Week 14 at Baltimore and Week 16 at the Lions.

That prompted Nantz to give Rodgers a message.

“I don’t know if you’re watching, Aaron Rodgers, I hope you are,” Nantz said on NFL Network, via Awful Announcing. “But I want you to know that I’m passing the hat here at Quail Hollow. And we’re taking up a collection. I think we can run this thing up to somewhere close to — just again, a few of my colleagues and some friends — we want to see you in the Steel City this season. And we’re willing to contribute, I think we can up close to seven figures as a feel-good sign of appreciation. Just to kick in, a little incentive for you to be in Pittsburgh this year.”

The Jets and Rodgers parted ways in March after the four-time NFL MVP had two disappointing seasons in New York.

Rodgers’ 2023 season ended after four snaps when he tore his Achilles in Week 1 against the Bills. With a healthy Rodgers, expectations going into 2024 were once again high, but he led a team that instead went 5-12.

In 17 games last season, Rodgers completed 63% of his passes for 3,897 yards, 28 touchdowns and 11 interceptions.
