Dak Prescott Finally Chimes in on Cowboys' George Pickens Trade

The Dallas Cowboys' offseason has been filled with exciting roster moves, but few have the fanbase as fired up as George Pickens' arrival in the Lone Star State. The Cowboys opened the offseason desperately needing to find a No. 2 receiver to play opposite CeeDee Lamb, and that's exactly what they did by acquiring Pickens from the Pittsburgh Steelers last week.

Cowboys fans will finally get their first chance to see Pickens on the gridiron when organized team activities (OTAs) begin later this month. Having said that, there's a good chance that no one is looking forward to the newcomer's presence than quarterback Dak Prescott.

On Wednesday, Prescott finally commented on his new weapon's arrival.

Cowboys QB Dak Prescott 'Excited' to Play With WR George Pickens

According to The Athletic's Jon Machota, Prescott spoke about his first time connecting with Pickens during Wednesday's appearance on 96.7 The Ticket.

"We've connected. I'm excited," Prescott admitted during the interview. "You turn on the tape, you see a guy that can catch the football. You put the football anywhere in his vicinity, very strong hands. More than a 50/50 catcher. He thinks it's his ball when it's in the air. I'm excited for him."

Even though it's a quarterback's job as a leader to hype up offseason additions, the Cowboys' signal-caller didn't shy away from the fact that Pickens is exactly the type of player head coach Brian Schottenheimer's offense needs.

"I know we needed some help at (WR)," Prescott added. "It's hard to double-team two guys... I think we're putting together a nice group of weapons."

It'd be hard to find a Cowboys fan who isn't excited about Pickens' addition to the offense. The former 2022 second-rounder has been one of the brightest young WRs of the last few years, having converted 174 catches into 2,841 receiving yards and 12 touchdowns in three seasons with the Steelers. He even paced the NFL with 18.1 yards per reception in 2023, highlighting his elite upside.

Pickens' presence will likely take some heat off Lamb, who's coming off his fourth consecutive Pro Bowl campaign. Even though he didn't match his impressive 2023 performance, the 26-year-old playmaker still posted a 101-1,194-6 stat line in 15 appearances en route to All-Pro second-team honors.

Along with Lamb and Pickens, the Cowboys' 2025 WR room will be filled with returning names like Jalen Tolbert, Jonathan Mingo, and Jalen Brooks, as well as new faces like Parris Campbell, Traeshon Holden, and Josh Kelly. That's without mentioning Prescott's other weapons like tight end Jake Ferguson, or running back trio Javonte Williams, Miles Sanders, and Jaydon Blue.

With the above arsenal at his disposal, Prescott has no excuses not to succeed next season. The 31-year-old QB is coming off an injury-plagued campaign that held him to only eight starts, and his retooled group of weapons will make a bounce-back performance that much easier.

A huge performance from Prescott would likely have a positive impact on the Cowboys' Super Bowl 60 odds, which currently sit at +4700 (19th) on FanDuel Sportsbook, less than a week before OTAs begin.
