Man United target going head-to-head with Cole Palmer and William Saliba for Premier League award

Manchester United players certainly won’t be in the running for many end-of-season awards after the 2024/25 campaign.

It has been a miserable season for the Red Devils, who have dropped down to 16th in the Premier League table with a record-breaking 17 defeats this season.

As a result, Manchester United have cancelled their awards night usually held at the end of the season.

The Sir Matt Busby Player of the Year award will still be going ahead with fans able to vote now on United’s best player of the season.

But it will be a quiet awards season when it comes to Premier League awards. Instead, one of United’s top summer targets is in the running.

Liam Delap nominated for prestigious Premier League award

Recent reports claim Liam Delap is keen to join United this summer despite receiving offers from several Premier League clubs including Chelsea.

Delap is available for £30 million due to a relegation clause in his Ipswich Town contract. Despite being demoted, his debut Premier League season has caught attention.

The 22-year-old has scored 12 goals in 35 league matches this season, ranking him 13th in the Golden Boot race.

As a result of his impressive season, Liam Delap has been nominated for the Premier League Young Player of the Season award.

The Ipswich striker is in the running alongside a host of star players including Chelsea star Cole Palmer and Arsenal’s William Saliba.

Former United star Anthony Elanga has also been nominated following his impressive campaign with Nottingham Forest.

Previous winners of Premier League Young Player of the Season

While Delap is not the favourite to win the award, he does have an opportunity to put his name alongside a host of incredibly talented young players.

In the 2023/24 season, it was boyhood United fan Cole Palmer who won the award, and he could win it again this campaign.

Before that, it was won by Erling Haaland in 2022/23 and Phil Foden in both 2021/22 and 2020/21.

The award was only created in 2019 and was won in its first year by Liverpool’s Trent Alexander-Arnold, who has announced he is leaving the Merseyside club this summer.

The award has never been won by a Manchester United player, although Kobbie Mainoo was nominated for the award last season.
