Report: ‘Best striker in the world’ has his heart set on Arsenal transfer

Arsenal target and Sporting hero Viktor Gyokeres is edging closer to a move to north London in the coming months, according to reports - with suggestions that he has his 'heart set' on a move to the English capital in both an 'emotional' and financial sense.

Gyokeres has been a machine once again for Sporting this season, scoring 38 goals in just 32 games for the Lisbon-based outfit in the league, alongside six in the Champions League's newfound league phase. That has seen vast interest from across Europe - and it appears that the Gunners may have won the race for his signature.

The report by Portuguese outlet Correio da Manha, via SportWitness, states that Arsenal have made a formal €75million (£64milllion) offer for Gyokeres as they look to tempt the Swede to the Emirates Stadium - and they are expected to be his next destination ahead of the summer transfer window.

It's thought that the 26-year-old is 'at the top' of Berta's striker target list, given that Mikel Arteta is in dire need of striker recruits in the summer if Arsenal are to start to win trophies, and this year's lack of silverware has now made it five years without a trophy in their cabinet.

But excitingly, it's further reported that Arteta has convinced Gyokeres to make the switch to the Emirates Stadium ahead of other targets, with the talisman having his 'heart set' on a move to north London despite interest from clubs such as Manchester United and Chelsea.

The Champions League semi-finalists have grabbed Gyokeres 'emotionally and financially', as they step up their bid to add firepower to their ranks to help finish off the chances created by Bukayo Saka, Declan Rice, Martin Odegaard and more - and Arteta could make him the final piece of the jigsaw to finally land silverware, having been labelled as the 'best striker in the world' just a month ago.

Gabriel Jesus picked up an ACL injury in early January in the FA Cup clash against United, and that left Arsenal with three weeks to bring in much-needed backup for Kai Havertz - and when they failed to do so, it was only going to be fate when Havertz was ruled out until the end of the campaign after a freak injury on a warm summer training camp in Dubai.
