49ers' historic rival might have more primetime games than wins this season

Love them or hate them, fans (including those of the 49ers) apparently still can't enough of seeing the Cowboys on prime time.

There are more than a handful of odd quirks each year when the annual NFL schedule is released.

2025 is no different, and San Francisco 49ers fans can attest to the multiple positive and negative aspects from their team's upcoming docket off games. On the plus side, the Niners' rest differential is finally back in the positive after two years of being at a massive disadvantage.

On the negative, four of San Francisco's five primetime games seem, well... boring.

Speaking of games in prime time, the 49ers are up there with those five, but they're not tied with the league lead in that category.

The Kansas City Chiefs have seven primetime games, and while that may make Niners fans cringe, K.C. is kind of relevant right now.

But, interestingly enough, the Dallas Cowboys are right behind Kansas City with six.

Oh, does that set the stage for what could be a juicy storyline.

Cowboys could finish with fewer wins than primetime games in 2025

The NFL gave Dallas six primetime bouts, which is fine. Fans either love or hate the Cowboys (there's no in-between), so putting them on national television a lot makes sense.

Meanwhile, NFL.com's Cynthia Frelund projected Dallas to have 7.2 wins on the year, based on metrics, which opens up the possibility of yet another disappointing year out at AT&T Stadium.

Playing in the NFC East isn't exactly favorable for the Cowboys, especially having to face the Super Bowl-champion Philadelphia Eagles twice and also the up-and-coming Washington Commanders twice.

Tack on two Thursday night bouts against both the Chiefs and Detroit Lions, and it's not hard to see how Dallas' 2025 campaign can unravel relatively quickly.

Granted, the Niners don't face quarterback Dak Prescott and Co. this year, at least not in the regular season. So, unfortunately, San Francisco won't aid in helping promote the idea of continued Cowboys failures.

Still, should the Cowboys finish with less than six wins, it'd be an epic LOL.
