One of the highlights of the NFL schedule release is the effort teams make in their announcements. The Jacksonville Jaguars most definitely delivered with their collaboration with influencer Ashton Hall. However, the same cannot be said about the Indianapolis Colts and their failed attempt to be edgy. In fact, their clip was so controversial that they chose to delete it not long after posting it.
After posting their release video, Indy quickly took it down. It's easy to see why. It went with a Minecraft theme announcement that displayed Tyreek Hill as a dolphin being arrested by the Coast Guard. This was a callback to his arrest on his way to the season opener against the Jacksonville Jaguars.
Hill ultimately made it on time and helped the Miami Dolphins torch the Jags. Later in the Colts announcement, Chiefs quarterback Patrick Mahomes appears, stopping a fight between Patrick Mahomes Sr. and John Rocker. It might not have been as controversial as the Hill fragment but was still odd. The worst part is that the Los Angeles Chargers went with a Minecraft team, and their video got praise, showing that they can take shots at their opponents without crossing the line.
For instance, the Chargers made fun at Liam Coen's Duuuuval chant. It was cute and harmless.
Of course, the Houston Texans caught wind of the situation and couldn't pass up the chance to poke fun at their divisional foes. As the saying goes, the enemy of my enemy is my ally. At least in this instance, they deserve recognition for taking a jab. And in case you haven't watched the Jaguars' announcement, here's the video, because why not?
The Jaguars got it right with their NFL Schedule release video, the Colts dropped the ball
The point of the NFL schedule release is to have fun, but it's one thing to have a laugh because of something funny that happened to a rival, and a whole different thing is to make light of an unfortunate situation, such as an arrest or a fight. In this case, the Indianapolis Colts picked both for their release video, and it's fair to say that they dropped the ball. If they didn't, they wouldn't have erased it.
The issue is that it didn't have to get to that point. It should've gone through a filter, and whoever gave the thumbs up probably didn't do a throughout job. Short of traveling back in the past, there's nothing they can do but take the L and serve as an example, so other teams avoid going after the low-hanging fruit in future announcements.
