3-4-2-1: Predicted Manchester United XI to face Chelsea, major changes ahead

In Manchester United’s penultimate game of the Premier League season, the focus will be on avoiding further injury setbacks ahead of the Europa League final.

Ruben Amorim has decided to rotate his Manchester United team in recent weeks, prioritising the team’s bid to win the Europa League and sacrificing an already terrible Premier League campaign.

The Red Devils will travel to Stamford Bridge on Friday night, where they will face a Chelsea side hoping to clinch Champions League qualification at the latter stages of the 2024/25 season.

United have a chance to put a dent in that, but their focus will be on staying fit for the game against Tottenham on Wednesday night in Bilbao.

Amorim rotated his squad in the recent league game as United lost 2-0 against West Ham in their 17th defeat of the season.

It will also be an opportunity for United’s head coach to give minutes to players like Mason Mount, who recently returned from injury.

How Manchester United could line-up vs Chelsea

This game means very little for United, considering Amorim’s side is destined to finish in the bottom half of the table.

The Red Devils can finish as low as 17th following a run of abysmal results.

Here is how we predict United will line-up against Chelsea on Friday.

Goalkeeper

Amorim changed the goalkeeper last week and gave Altay Bayindir the nod from the start, which we think will happen again this week.

Defence

United’s defensive record is hitting a worrying state as they continue to concede more goals than they score. Amorim is set to field a weaker back three this weekend, including Jonny Evans, Tyler Fredricson and Victor Lindelof.

The wing-back roles could be occupied by Jaydan Kamason and Harry Amass.

Midfield

In midfield, Toby Collyer is set to return alongside Kobbie Mainoo. Mason Mount will also get the chance to start ahead of the final, with Alejandro Garnacho in one of the number 10 roles.

Striker

There’s no point risking any injuries ahead of the final, so it would make sense to play Chido Obi from the start against Chelsea. It would be an incredible experience and give United fans a taste of what the young forward is about.
