One Caleb Williams quote might restore Bears fans' trust after Vikings gutpunch

What is an NFL offseason without a little bit of adversity anyway.

There is no doubt that the Chicago Bears were coasting through their offseason, doing all the right things to put Caleb Williams in a position to succeed with first-year head coach Ben Johnson. It's all of the things that the Bears should have been doing last offseason, but as the latest bombshell report from ESPN proves, that is the very thing the organization did not do.

Bears fans aren't just proud about their team, they are proud about their city. Before casting Williams as a villian, it's important to understand that everything revealed on Thursday was confirmation of what Bears fans already knew. Williams was not put in a position to succeed with the Bears last season. That was the fear Williams had before being selected by the Bears, and to his credit, he put his foot down with his dad and insisted on playing for the Bears.

Hearing of Williams' flirtations with the Minnesota Vikings wasn't great, but there is one takeaway that should make Bears fans proud of their starting quarterback.

"They were all in on Caleb. So that left one option, the Jack and John Elway option of basically nuking a city and making a situation untenable. And while I think Carl would've been willing to do it and was willing to take bullets for his son, it wasn't something Caleb wanted to do ... and he told me when we discussed it, he said 'I wasn't ready to nuke Chicago," Seth Wickersham told Rich Eisen.

In Ben Johnson and Caleb Williams, we trust.

There was a lot that the Bears did wrong in terms of ensuring Williams had a soft landing in the NFL, but the fact that they were able to convince him to play for the organization is a victory that can't be overlooked. Williams is still the Bears' quarterback, and better yet, Matt Eberflus and Shane Waldron are far from the organization. Ryan Poles is still with the Bears, but the hope is Ben Johnson is the most influential voice at Halas Hall moving forward.

"In Ben Johnson, we trust" has been the mantra of the Bears' offseason. That mantra applies to this situation with Williams. Johnson is the perfect head coach who can usher not only Williams' career in a better direction, but also the Bears organization as a whole.
