FC Barcelona closing in on contract extension with key player

Irene Paredes, one of FC Barcelona’s centre backs, is a key figure in the team’s defense and aerial strength. She joined Barça in 2021 from Paris Saint-Germain and has been crucial ever since. A standout moment was her goal line clearance in the [Women’s Champions League](https://womenfootball.blog/womens-champions-league/) final against Lyon in 2024 – securing her second UWCL title. According to _Rut Vilar_, Paredes is very close to renewing her contract with the club through 2027.

The Spanish international has played a total of 142 games for FC Barcelona so far, scoring 14 goals and winning 12 titles:

* 4 Supercopa

* 4 La Liga F

* 2 Copa de la Reina

* 2 Women’s Champions League

FC Barcelona still has the chance to win two more titles this season: the Women’s Champions League on the May 24 against Arsenal and the Copa La Reina against Atlético Madrid on June 7. Paredes was also an essential player for the Spanish international women’s team at the World Cup 2023.

Martina Fernández was sent out on loan to Everton in January. She immediately felt at home with the Toffees and made 14 appearances – playing every minute of every game in the second half of the season. The loan stint helped her adapt to a more physical style of football and sharpen her defensive skills.

According to _Maria Tikas_, her strong efforts with Everton might be rewarded with a place in Pere Romeu team next season. Previously she struggled for minutes at Barça, also due to a meniscus injury. Now, fully fit, she returns with valuable experience from the WSL and looks ready to compete for a place in the team.
