Barca vs Espanyol briefly halted after car ploughs into fans outside stadium

Barcelona’s La Liga clash with Espanyol on Thursday at the RCDE Stadium was briefly halted in the opening stages after a shocking incident that took place outside the stadium.

A stadium announcement brought a strong reaction from the home crowd and the referee then briefly halted the game for several minutes before continuing.

The reason for the delay was due to a car ploughing into supporters outside the stadium which has reportedly left several Espanyol fans injured.

According to Mundo Deportivo, the incident took place just before kick-off and led to several ambulances being despatched to treat the injured.

Around a dozen people are thought to have been hurt, although none seriously, after a driver lost control of their vehicle and hit supporters ahead of the match.

The game between Barcelona and Espanyol was not stopped for long, with the stadium announcer confirming the situation was under control.
