Arsenal advancing in talks for prolific striker

Arsenal host Newcastle United on Sunday in an intriguing Premier League encounter.

The Gunners had briefly challenged for the top flight title but now look set to finish as runners-up for the third consecutive campaign, however victory for the Magpies on Sunday could see them overtake their opponents.

This summer, Mikel Arteta and those in charge of Arsenal’s recruitment will likely be busy in the transfer market.

With that in mind, it appears that the North London giants are edging closer to an agreement to sign one of Europe’s most prolific goal scorers.

As per CaughtOffside, Arsenal are close to reaching an agreement with Sporting CP striker Viktor Gyokeres.

The Sweden international has been prolific for Sporting since joining from Championship side Coventry City in 2023.

In total he has scored 95 goals in 100 matches across all competitions for the Portuguese side, as well as providing 28 assists.

This season he has netted 52 times in 50 games, but his scintillating form hasn’t gone unnoticed and Arsenal are said to be just one of a number of clubs interested in the player.

The Gunners’ fierce Premier League rivals Manchester United and Liverpool are both also said to be interested in the Swede, who is under contract until the end of the 2027/28 campaign.

It is claimed that Arsenal have offered Gyokeres a five-year contract that would earn him a staggering £9 million-per-year.

The Gunners will face stiff competition to sign Gyokeres this summer, though, with several sides monitoring the player’s situation ahead of the summer transfer window.

Arsenal are set to be on the hunt for a new striker this summer with both Kai Havertz and Gabriel Jesus having missed large parts of the current campaign through injury.
