Jordan Poyer's career got off to a rocky start with the Philadelphia Eagles and Cleveland Browns early in his NFL journey.
Everything changed when he joined Sean McDermott and the Buffalo Bills, though. Under new coaching, Poyer not only became an All-Pro player, but one of the best safeties in football for an ascending Bills roster.
After seven years in Western New York last season, though, Poyer was released and later signed with the Miami Dolphins. Now 34 years old, the veteran safety is out of Miami, and hoping to land back with the Bills.
And he's publicly pleading for the chance to do so now.
“It was just a really tough year. Obviously, transitioning from Buffalo to Miami, cultures being different, systems being different, it just didn’t work out the way that anybody had hoped," Poyer said. "But at the same time, I’m thankful for it all, thankful for all the moments, all the friendships. Would I like to play again? Absolutely.
"Whatever that looks like. It’d be dope, it’d be ideal to have a fantasy ending and be able to retire a Bill, but who knows?"
Despite recording 98 tackles and three passes defended, Poyer truly struggled in coverage last season. Normally, with a player his age, that is a sign that the game has gotten too fast for him.
And that doesn't necessarily fit the Bills' plans to get younger and cheaper on the defensive side of the ball. Especially at safety with Taylor Rapp and Cole Bishop competing for roster spots as high draft picks.
Poyer may want another chance in Buffalo, but it doesn't look like the Bills have any room for him.
