Chelsea welcome Manchester United to Stamford Bridge on Friday evening as the 2024/25 Premier League season winds down.

Enzo Maresca's side are currently fifth in the table and need three points in the race for Champions League qualification. The Blues are level on points with Aston Villa, with a better goal difference the only thing keeping them ahead of the Midlands side.

Dependent on the result, a win could send Chelsea as high as third place in the table, albeit temporarily, with Newcastle United only three points ahead. A draw or a loss could allow the likes of Villa and Nottingham Forest to overtake them, although that will depend on their respective results against Tottenham Hotspur and West Ham.

Maresca will be keen to bounce back from Chelsea's 2-0 loss to Newcastle on Sunday. The Blues went a goal down just two minutes into the fixture courtesy of Sandro Tonali, before Nicolas Jackson was sent off leading up to half time for an elbow.

Bruno Guimaraes then doubled the Magpies' lead on the cusp of full-time at St James' Park. It's a polar opposite state of affairs for Manchester United, who will hope to end the league season on a high before their date with destiny against Tottenham in the Europa League final.

The Red Devils head into Friday's fixture in 16th with a mere 39 points - a result of just ten wins and nine draws this term. United are on track for their worst-ever finish in the Premier League, with 13th their best possible finish come the end of the season.

Ruben Amorim has failed to impress in the Premier League, despite United's performances in Europe and, as a result, the Old Trafford head into the match at Stamford Bridge without a win in their last seven league games. They do still have the silver lining of a Europa League final to look forward to, though, with that match up against Tottenham pencilled in for Wednesday, 21st May.
