Manchester United could be stuck in a tough situation with Marcus Rashford’s loan about to expire.
It is a situation which is almost a carbon copy of Jadon Sancho last season, as he returned from a loan at Borussia Dortmund for crunch talks with Erik ten Hag.
This summer, Sancho could also be returning to Manchester United if Chelsea pay their £5m penalty for cancelling the obligation to buy, but there will be no hostility from Ruben Amorim.
However, Rashford publicly stated his desire to leave United just weeks into Amorim’s reign and therefore there is likely no way back. This situation all began with Rashford excluded by Amorim for training effort levels which saw him miss the Manchester Derby.
To make matters worse, Rashford’s move to Villa looks more unlikely than ever, with the Villains crashing out of the Champions League and now desperately need to secure a top five finish to avoid financial pain.
Rashford’s season came to an early and unfortunate end, with injury ruling him out as he watches the rest of the season from home.

Marcus Rashford expecting £40m Manchester United decision
Rashford will be hoping to receive a Europa League medal to add to his collection, with it coming at the club’s discretion. But ahead of the summer transfer window, now BBC Sport journalist Simon Stone has revealed what the Englishman is thinking about his future.

He explains that Rashford enjoyed working with Unai Emery at Villa but that there have been no negotiations over making the move permanent just yet. However, if Villa secure Champions League football, this could change and it would place the Claret and Blue outfit in a better position to afford Rashford’s £325,000-a-week wages.
Rashford has no intention of taking a pay cut, which means only a slim collection of teams can afford him, with the 27-year-old keen to play in the Champions League.
The report adds that Rashford believes that United are prepared to sell this summer for £40m to any club who come knocking, not just Villa who have the option to purchase.
This could mean other Premier League sides arrive with interest, but Barcelona is Rashford’s dream next club, however he is so far not close to that deal.
Marcus Rashford planning for Manchester United pre-season return
Two months ago, Rashford was flying for Villa and it looked like a formality that they would trigger the option to buy him. However, with that looking unlikely, it might not be a quick exit for the forward.
Instead, as the BBC Sport report continued, Rashford and his camp now expect to be back at Carrington for pre-season training in July where if he and Amorim make up, he could play a part in pre-season.
He might return, but the sources cited in the report claim that Amorim has zero intention of reinstating Rashford into his squad after what happened, and therefore the academy graduate may be out in the cold.
It could be that he needs to accept he won’t be getting paid this amount anymore and leave the club instead of wasting years of his career with no club willing to take a punt for such a hefty wage package.
