Leeds United have congratulated Raphinha after the Brazilian superstar helped Barcelona win the La Liga title. The Spanish giants defeated 10-man Espanyol 2-0 last night to wrap up the title with two matches to spare.
It has been an extraordinary season for Raphinha. The former Whites forward has plundered 18 goals and provided 11 assists in 34 league appearances. It is the second time Raphinha has won the La Liga crown since his big-money switch to Barcelona in the summer of 2022.
“Champions of the league. Congratulations, Raphinha and Barca!”, Leeds United wrote on their Spanish X account. The post was also reshared on the United's official club account.
The 28-year-old also racked up 22 goal involvements in the Catalan club's run to the Champions League semi-finals. They came up short in the last four, losing to Inter Milan in a classic two-legged tie.
It has been some turnaround in Raphinha's fortunes as the mercurial forward played 90 minutes only seven times under former boss Xavi: twice in the first season and five times in the second. But Raphinha has established himself as a key member of Hansi Flick's starting XI, with the German coach bringing the best out of the player on a consistent basis.
“Flick changed my career; I owe him the best season of my life,” Raphinha said in an interview with The Guardian. Barcelona face Villarreal in their final home match this Sunday before rounding off their campaign with a trip to Athletic Bilbao on Sunday, May 25.
