‘You might even spot some future stars’

An American football tournament takes place in the county this weekend.

South East Legion under-19s host their first - and only - home tournament of the season at Shepway Green in Maidstone on Saturday.

The Legion, who are part of Kent Phoenix, face Oxford Saints at 12noon before taking on Poole Dolphins at 1.30pm.

The four-team Division 2 South tournament, which also features Bristol Aztecs, is free to watch, while a burger van and ice cream van will be on site for spectators.

Legion coach Lee Parsons said: “You can expect to see some really exciting full-contact American football as we play teams travelling from Oxford and Poole.

“You might even get to spot some future stars of the professional game before they make it and there will be plenty of people on hand to explain the rules to anyone who is new to the game but fancies coming along to watch.

“Bring a camping chair if you want to sit down and there will be food vans on site so you can enjoy a burger whilst you watch the games.”
