Report: Caleb Williams Wanted To Be A Viking Before Ryan Poles’ Critical Decision

Caleb Williams, Chicago Bears quarterback, apparently wanted to do nothing with the team and instead expressed an interest in joining the Minnesota Vikings. This and more were revealed by journalist Seth Wickersham’s book, “American Kings: A Biography of the Quarterback”. According to the book, Williams and his father, Carl Williams, tried their best to avoid being picked by the Chicago Bears.

Williams has been playing for the Chicago Bear since 2024 after being selected by the team as the first overall pick in the very first round of the NFL draft. Before the NFL, 23-year-old Williams split his college football for the Oklahoma Sooners and the USC Trojans.

Carl Williams, Caleb Williams, played college football for Oklahoma State and currently has a physical training center called the ‘Athletic Republic Capitol Region’. Carl Williams was dead against his son joining the Chicago Bears, and remarked that quarterbacks who go to this particular team simply ‘die’.

However, the general manager of the Chicago Bears, Ryan Poles, was firm in his stance in bringing in Caleb Williams to their locker room. In the previous NFL season, Williams threw for a total of 3,541 yards, scoring 20 touchdowns, while managing six interceptions.

In the 2024 NFL season, the Chicago Bears did not do too well and finished last in the NFC North after winning five games and losing 12. In the previous season, the Bears played their very last game against the Green Bay Packers, winning with a close 24-22 final score. However, the win came too late and the Bears were already out of the tournament.

Caleb Williams Backed By Mike Florio, Expected To Perform Well In Next Season

Caleb Williams was heavily expected to perform beautifully for the Chicago Bears in the previous NFL season. However, the quarterback’s performance last year was, in a word, underwhelming. As a result, many NFL fans had come out in criticism of Williams.

Still, Mike Florio, founder of ProFootballTalk, expects only good things from Caleb Williams. He also announced recently that there is a group of people who are trying to pull down Williams in the team. Florio still expects Caleb Williams to have a “breakout season” next year for the Chicago Bears.

The Chicago Bears will open their season with a matchup against the Minnesota Vikings. Before the Vikings, the Bears will play two preseason games with the Buffalo Bills and the Kansas City Chiefs to warm their players up.
