Dowman and Porter look to impress at U17 Euros

The latest edition of the U17 European Championship gets underway next week and both of Arsenal’s representatives at the competition will be in the England squad.

Max Dowman, playing above his age group, should be a key figure for the team, while Jack Porter will hope to be the first-choice in goal.

The tournament will be held in Albania, with England having been placed in Group B where they will face Italy, Belgium and Czech Republic.

Since making his debut at this level in September last year, Dowman has proceeded to score four goals in 13 appearances for England U17s.

In the latter stages of the season at club level Dowman demonstrated his leadership qualities as he frequently helped to drag Arsenal U18s out of difficult situations.

The 15-year-old could have a similar part to play for England and his versatility may also prove to be a useful asset. For Arsenal Dowman usually plays as an attacking midfielder or a right winger, but at international level there have been times when he has played up front, as a left winger or in a deeper midfield position.

Porter, meanwhile, has made five appearances for England U17s so far.

It was a hugely eventful season for the goalkeeper, who made his senior debut for Arsenal and also featured for the U21s as well as gaining plenty of experience at U18 level.
