Report: Aston Villa hold talks to sign ‘incredible’ star, Emery wants him at Villa Park next…

Aston Villa would like to keep defender Axel Disasi beyond the end of the 2024/25 season, according to FootMercato.

It has been yet another stellar season for Villa under the management of Unai Emery, who has taken them to Europe from a position of battling relegation. In the 2023/24 season, not only did the Villans reach the semi-finals of the Conference League, but they qualified for the Champions League for the first time in four decades.

Villa did well on the continent, reaching the quarter-finals before being beaten by would-be finalists Paris Saint-Germain. In the Premier League, the Midlands side have secured European football once more but at the time of writing, still have some games to play that could see them rise into a Champions League place.

Regardless of which competition they play in, another season of European football is a testament to the work done by Emery and his squad, which was bolstered by three key loan signings in January. Now, it would appear that the Villans want to keep one of these loanees on a permanent basis.

Towards the end of the January transfer window, Villa secured the signing of Axel Disasi on loan for the remainder of the season. The defender struggled for consistent minutes at Chelsea and under Emery, has found himself deployed as either a centre-back, his natural position, or a right-back.

Now, according to FootMercato, it would seem that Villa hope to keep Disasi, dubbed "incredible" for his form, beyond the summer. Disasi’s “mentality and dedication to training are praised by the staff” at Aston Villa, with Disasi having provided crucial cover in two positions in his time at the club thus far. Reportedly, "discussions have already been held with the player" about the potential move.

Villa’s qualification for European football will no doubt serve as a major incentive for Disasi, as will the first-team football that he receives on a more consistent basis than he had under Enzo Maresca at Stamford Bridge.
