Report: Arsenal now want to sign £100m ‘absolute superstar’ instead of Isak and Gyokeres

Arsenal are one of a number of Premier League teams that are admirers of Brighton and Hove Albion striker Joao Pedro, according to Sam Dean of The Telegraph.

Should Arsenal win their remaining Premier League matches, then they will finish second for a third consecutive season, only this time behind Liverpool rather than Manchester City. Mikel Arteta has enjoyed a strong season with the Gunners, even reaching the Champions League semi-finals, but the club will once more finish a campaign without silverware.

Despite all the good work that Arteta has done at the Emirates during his reign as manager, he will be all too conscious of the fact that he has not won any major silverware since the 2019 FA Cup and will no doubt be desperate to change this.

The Gunners are already looking ahead to the summer transfer window. Arsenal have agreed a deal in principle to sign Martin Zubimendi and reinforce their midfield, but it is clear that the North London side are also hoping to bolster their attacking ranks.

According to Sam Dean of The Telegraph, Arsenal are “among the admirers” of Joao Pedro. The striker joined Brighton from Watford in 2023 and since then, has established himself as the club’s leading frontman, having developed into one of the better strikers in the Premier League.

Pedro’s form has, rather understandably, garnered interest in the player from other clubs. Much has been said about Arsenal’s lacking options at striker, with midfielder Mikel Merino having been deployed there as a makeshift number nine after injuries to both Gabriel Jesus and Kai Havertz earlier in the season.

In Joao Pedro, who has been labelled an "absolute superstar," Arsenal would be signing not only a natural striker, but one with bags of Premier League experience, despite Pedro being just 23 years old. The Brazilian international would not be cheap. According to TBR Football, Brighton would demand £100 million to let Pedro depart, though even this would be cheaper than Alexander Isak, another Arsenal target.

Pedro would be a costly signing, but one with Premier League experience, which may make Arsenal pursue him instead of Viktor Gyokeres, who Arsenal have also looked at. Perhaps Pedro could be the striker that Arsenal need to finally win some major silverware once more.
