The Montreal Alouettes cut former Pittsburgh Steelers running back Daijun Edwards after just two days of training camp.
According to Eric Leblanc of RDS, Edwards showed up to training camp out of shape, and after doing so, the Alouettes sent him packing. They made it officially by releasing Edwards on May 13, and it showed up on the CFL transactions page.
Leblanc adds that Alouettes management made the swift move immediately and that Edwards lacked ‘professionalism’ in approaching the situation at hand.
When the Steelers signed Edwards last year out of the University of Georgia, he was a highly-sought after player many thought would get drafted. After averaging 5.3 yards per carry during his four seasons in Athens, Edwards looked solid throughout training camp.
However, the deep Steelers running back and his lack of special teams experience hurt him, and Edwards did not even make the practice squad, instead opting to sign with the Alouettes in February.
In three preseason games, Edwards toted the football seven times for 37 yards while catching one pass for nine yards. His senior season at Georgia put him on NFL and CFL maps, rushing for 881 yards and 13 touchdowns on a modest 164 carries.
