Arsenal are close to securing a contract agreement with Sporting striker Viktor Gyokeres, according to CaughtOffside.
The 2024/25 season has been another “nearly” campaign for Arsenal, who look set to finish second in the Premier League for a third consecutive year. The Gunners fell short at the penultimate hurdle in the Champions League semi-finals against Paris Saint-Germain, which confirmed that they would end the term without silverware.
Mikel Arteta has done a stellar job of rebuilding Arsenal and returning them to a position of competing for major honours, but the Spaniard will be all too aware that he has not won any major silverware since the 2019 FA Cup, something he will be desperate to change.
The Gunners, rather unsurprisingly, already have an eye on the summer transfer window. Arsenal have already agreed a deal in principle for Martin Zubimendi to bolster their midfield, but the North London side are also targeting a striker.

Gunners may finally have their striker
Viktor Gyokeres
As per CaughtOffside, Arsenal have reached an agreement with Viktor Gyokeres over a five-year contract that would reportedly be worth around £9 million per year, or £175,000 per week. Since moving to Sporting from Coventry City in 2023, Gyokeres has established himself as one of the best and most lethal strikers in Europe.

Much has been said about Arsenal’s current striking options or, to be more specific, their lack thereof. Gabriel Jesus and Kai Havertz both struggled for consistency before suffering injuries in January, with Havertz’s best position still being questioned. Their absence has seen Arsenal resort to using Mikel Merino, a midfielder, as a makeshift striker.
In Gyokeres, Arsenal would be signing a natural number nine and one of the best that will be on the market at that. Other clubs, of course, hold an interest in the Swede, but there is a glaringly obvious fit for Gyokeres in the current Arsenal team. Should Gyokeres, who is reportedly "desperate to join" Arsenal, be the man to fill that void at striker, then perhaps Arsenal can finally win a major trophy once again.
