Newcastle fans will absolutely love Arsenal manager’s big Premier League title claim

Arsenal manager Mikel Arteta said in his recent press conference that Newcastle United can challenge for the Premier League title next season.

The Magpies have had an excellent 2024-25 campaign and are poised to secure a Champions League spot.

They are currently just two points behind the Gunners in the standings, but can climb to second with victory against their London rivals this Sunday.

Ahead of the blockbuster Emirates Stadium encounter, Arteta made a stunning Premier League title claim that will likely be music to the ears of Newcastle fans.

Asked whether the Tyneside club will be title contenders next season, the Spanish boss said: “Yeah, they’ve certainly built the squad, they have the quality and a very clear identity. On top of that, it would be very dependent on if teams are in Europe or not in Europe, playing once a week or three times a week. That’s a massive change as well and we have all experienced that.”

Newcastle have seen a tremendous improvement in their fortunes since the Saudi-backed takeover in 2021.

They surprised everyone by beating champions Liverpool in the Carabao Cup final in March, ending their 70-year wait for a domestic trophy.

They will be aiming higher next season, and will look to make some quality acquisitions in the coming summer window.

Given the club were relatively quiet in the previous two windows, funds are expected to be available for new signings this summer.

Arteta’s comments would surely delight Newcastle supporters, but even their most optimistic fan knows the team is not ready to compete for the league title.

They are certainly on an upward trajectory, and will likely become better after new additions in the summer.

However, it may take a few more years before they are able to compete with the likes of Liverpool, Arsenal and Manchester City for the title.
