President Donald Trump and Taylor Swift are both, on some level, fans of the Kansas City Chiefs. But that is about all they have in common, as Trump made clear as the two of them were in attendance at the Caesars Superdome to watch the Chiefs take on the Philadelphia in Super Bowl 59.
Trump, the first sitting president in U.S. history to attend a Super Bowl, watched along with the rest of the world as the Eagles registered a 40-22 blowout, dominating KC and robbing the Chiefs of a chance for an unprecedented third straight Super Bowl win.
Trump, leading up to the game, had been quite vocal about the Chiefs over the past few days, shouting out Patrick Mahomes as an all-time great and also labeling Travis Kelce - the boyfriend of the aforementioned Swift - as the best tight end in the history of the NFL.
But whatever fondness Trump has for Kelce's game does not extend over to Swift.
Immediately after the Super Bowl's final gun, Trump hurried to social media to take a swipe at Swift.
"The only one that had a tougher night than the Kansas City Chiefs was Taylor Swift," Trump wrote on Truth Social. "She got BOOED out of the Stadium. MAGA is very unforgiving!"
And now the POTUS is at it again.
Inexplicably, Trump decided to call out Swift on Truth Social on Friday.
Wrote Trump: "Has anyone noticed that, since I said 'I HATE TAYLOR SWIFT,' she’s no longer HOT?"
We're not sure what he's talking about; Swift's Eras Tour just set a new record as the industry's first $2 billion tour over the past few years, and Swift - a 14-time Grammy winner who was nominated for six such awards this year - is said to be worth around $1.6 billion.
What is the origin story that would cause the President to viciously mock the pop star then and now?
Simply, Swift went public during the recent election and announced she would be voting for Trump's opponent.
"I will be casting my vote for Kamala Harris and Tim Walz in the 2024 Presidential Election," Swift wrote then on Instagram. "I’m voting for @kamalaharris because she fights for the rights and causes I believe need a warrior to champion them. I think she is a steady-handed, gifted leader and I believe we can accomplish so much more in this country if we are led by calm and not chaos. ... I’ve done my research, and I’ve made my choice. Your research is all yours to do, and the choice is yours to make."
