Newcastle United now alert to the situation of one of Chelsea’s ‘best players’ - journalist

Newcastle United are reportedly still monitoring a Premier League winger who recently had an audition at St James’ Park.

The Magpies are expected to have a busy summer transfer window to replace the players they have lost over the last 12 months.

Elliot Anderson reluctantly left Newcastle United, while young winger Yankuba Minteh joined Brighton, having failed to make a single appearance for the club.

Lloyd Kelly and Miguel Almiron’s January exits also meant that Eddie Howe was severely lacking in squad depth, but he has still managed to put Newcastle on the cusp of Champions League qualification.

Newcastle have £150m to spend this summer, so sporting director Paul Mitchell has more than enough to bring the desired transfer targets to the club.

With Mitchell ready to bring new faces to Tyneside this summer, journalist Ben Jacobs has commented on transfer links regarding a Premier League winger who has done well this season and recently had the chance to impress in his St James’ Park audition.

Newcastle United remain alert to Noni Madueke at Chelsea

Chelsea winger Noni Madueke has been on Newcastle’s radar since 2023, while he was a PSV player. However, he ultimately ended up signing for the Blues and has become a regular starter under Enzo Maresca this season.

Newcastle were linked with Madueke in January, but were quoted an eye-watering £60m to sign him. Mitchell was eager to bring new players to Newcastle in January, but PSR made any deals difficult.

However, Chelsea are believed to be ready to cash in on Madueke this summer to generate funds for transfers and free up space in the squad, despite Maresca believing he is one of Chelsea’s “best players” this season. (TBR)

Madueke’s future was brought up on the London is Blue Podcast episode, where transfer journalist Ben Jacobs was the guest.

“Noni Madueke is still liked by Enzo Maresca even though a club like Newcastle are alert to that situation.”

Newcastle see Madueke as the ‘perfect’ player; a good offer above £30m should be enough to bring him to Tyneside.

Noni Madueke performed poorly against Newcastle United at St James’ Park

Newcastle beat Chelsea 2-0 on Sunday to move one step closer towards Champions League qualification, but it was far from an easy win despite the Blues going down to 10 men.

Chelsea threatened Nick Pope’s goal on occasions during the second half but could not find the back of the net without Nicolas Jackson up front.

Madueke started the game at St James’ Park, but was taken off at half-time after a disappointing showing.

Appearances 30

Goals 7

Assists 3

The 23-year-old managed just 16 touches in the first half, failing to complete either of his dribbling or crossing attempts.

Additionally, Madueke lost all four of his ground duels and was even dribbled past twice.

It is fair to say that Newcastle fans did not see the best of Madueke at St James’ Park, but he has still proven that he can be a big threat in front of goal this season.
