Axel Disasi Aston Villa FC Villa Park
Aston Villa FC Villa Park
Axel Disasi has had a very good loan spell with Aston Villa and according to Footmercato, Unai Emery wants to keep him at the club permanently.
Disasi was struggling for game time at Chelsea and after just 6 Premier League appearances in the first half of the season, the defender was sent out on loan to Villa Park. Since February, Axel Disasi has turned a corner and he’s put in some fine performances for Villa.
Unai Emery and his team are impressed with what they have seen which is why the manager will ask the club to bring the defender back. Enzo Maresca has no use for Disasi and he will be more than happy to offload him and use that money to rebuild his squad in the summer. A deal, however, will not be straightforward because the defender is under contract with Chelsea until 2029 so the Blues will definitely look to recoup all of the €45 million they had paid for him in 2023.
Should Villa go ahead and sign Axel Disasi permanently?
Axel Disasi is primarily a right-back but he can also play in central defence and that’s where Unai Emery has been using him during the second half of the season.
Matty Cash is dominating the right-back and even at centre-back, Disasi has faced competition from the likes of Pau Torres and Konsa. He’s done brilliantly whenever called up (particularly vs Brugge in the UCL) but there’s a very slim chance that he can become a regular starter for Aston Villa next season. Unai Emery has used the loanee as someone he can call off the bench and we doubt if this is going to change next season.
Because his contract with Chelsea expires in 2029, the Blues will probably quote between €40-45 million Axel Disasi and at that price range, signing the defender will make sense. However, there’s no way Villa should pay anything more than €45 million for someone who’s played in just 13 Premier League games this season (for Chelsea and then Villa).
Here are some of his numbers:
Data Point(EPL 24/25) Numbers
Appearances 13
Goals Conceded 10
Clean Sheets 5
Dribbled Past 8
Tackles won 9
Duels Won % 54%
Interceptions 7
Recoveries 30
Villa are looking for defensive reinforcements and because of his versatility, it will be very tempting to keep hold of Axel Disasi. However, a loan deal for one more season will work best for the club. This arrangement will carry the least risk because Villa can offload him next year without much thought.
Chelsea would love to get rid of his permanently but they have no need to hit the panic button. The Blues will be more than happy to send him out on another loan deal, preferably with an obligation to buy.
Rumours suggest that Disasi wants to play in the Champions League and if Villa and qualify for the UCL next season, the defender might not be too worried with irregular gametime.
