Liverpool have started talks to sign Chelsea player this summer. The Blues signed the player for £52 million but the move has resulted in failure.
The star in question here is Christopher Nkunku. He joined the Blues in summer 2023 from RB Leipzig. The Frenchman was very good for Leipzig due to which the Blues paid £52 million for him. But, the deal didn’t went as per the plans.
Nkunku quickly suffered serious injury which kept him on sidelines in his first season. This gave Cole Palmer the chance to showcase himself. The Englishman took it with both hands and now is the main player for the West London club.
Nkunku returned to full fitness this season but was unable to get into starting lineup. He had already lost his attacking midfielder position to Palmer. Enzo Maresca did try to use Nkunku in other position which produced mixed results.
Nkunku was keen to leave Chelsea in January due to lack of game-time. He was wanted by Bayern Munich. But, the Blues wanted to recoup all the money they spent on Nkunku. This resulted in failure of deal but now the West London club is ready to let Nkunku leave.
Liverpool join the race for Nkunku
According to Foot Mercato, Liverpool have joined the race for Nkunku. The Reds have started the talks to land him in the summer window. They need a versatile forward and have identified the Frenchman as a perfect fit as per their needs. The player can be open to join them but will demand regular game time.
Bayern Munich are also keen to land Nkunku. They will try again in the summer window. Leroy Sane will surely leave the club which will open up space in their squad. Nkunku can be an ideal player to replace him due to his versatality and experience. Lastly, the player was already ready to join Bayern in January so convincing him won’t be a problem.
