Young Tyler Dibling has impressed everyone with his performances this season for Southampton and despite being relegation, the winger has no shortage of takers, as per TEAMtalk.
The Saints will return to the Championship next season but they are in no hurry to offload the 19-year-old. This news comes as a major blow for clubs like Chelsea, Man United, Liverpool and Tottenham Hotspur – all of whom were hopeful that Southampton would be forced to sell Tyler Dibling in the summer.
Southampton are not totally against the idea of cashing in on the youngster but they are demanding around £60 million as transfer fee, and that’s totally fair because the 19-year-old is contracted until 2027. Amongst the four suitors, Tottenham are the only side who have made a formal approach but Daniel Levy is only ready to pay £35 million for the right-winger.
Should Southampton offload Tyler Dibling and use the funds wisely?
Southampton’s confidence has been further boosted by reports suggesting that Tyler Dibling is in no hurry to move out and he will not push for an exit in the summer.
This decision, if true, will make things even more difficult for all the interested clubs. However, the Saints should be wise enough not to let this opportunity pass by.
Apart from Man United, Chelsea, Liverpool and Spurs, at least half a dozen other top teams have been linked with Dibling and more than one club will be willing to pay £60 million for the 19-year-old. His current market value is £30 million so even a fee of £50 million should be enough to please Southampton.
The winger will enter the final year of his contract next season and that’s when the alarm bells will start ringing. Not only will the club be forced to lower their demands but there will also be fears of Dibling leaving as a free agent.
Which one of the interested clubs won’t mind paying £60 million?
Amongst the four clubs who are leading this transfer race, Liverpool are the least likely to spend £60 million on a right winger, especially when they have just held Mo Salah to a new deal.
Apart from the Premier League champions all the other teams need a new and promising right-sided wide attacker but we don’t think Tottenham will agree to pay that much money for the youngster. Yes, he is a top talent but Daniel Levy just does not spend that sort of amount on unproven players.
Chelsea will need to clear out a lot of the deadwood before they can even think of signing Tyler Dibling. Noni Madueke and Pedro Neto marshal the right wing and only if the Blues can get rid of Madueke will the Blues make a move for the Southampton man.
Currently, Manchester United are best placed to pay the £60 million because they are preparing to offload almost the whole of their forward line. Rashford, Antony, Hojlund, Sancho and possibly Zirkzee will leave at the end of the season which means Man United will have the funds and also the dressing room space to sign Dibling. They do need to sign a new centre-forward but if United can get back into the Champions League, the manager will be backed by more funds.
