Pittsburgh Steelers still have a ton of cap space after trading George Pickens

The Pittsburgh Steelers still have a ton of cap space ahead of OTAs in two weeks. If they want to make moves, they can do it. It is not only to sign Aaron Rodgers, but if they wanted to add a wide receiver, there is more than enough room to do that.

According to Alan Saunders of Steelers Now, the Steelers still have $35 million in cap space. Some of that will have to be used for in-season flexibility, but the team still has over $25 million to spend as it wishes.

If they extend T.J. Watt, they could drop the cap hit on his contract, opening up more room and flexibility for the Steelers.

Pittsburgh could look to acquire a wide receiver after trading George Pickens. Trading him left a dead cap hit of a little bit over $500,000, which is minuscule. So far this offseason, they have acquired over $6 million in dead cap hits but have cleared just as much money to run even.

Rodgers’ contract should not be that hefty. On the Pat McAfee Show, he told teams he would be willing to play for $10 million. If that occurs, the Steelers will still have $15 million to go out and find Rodgers wide receiver or add another piece on the roster to strengthen it with the money they have.
