Shilo Sanders Boasts ‘I Always Do Something Great’ in Bucs Roster Bid

Unlike his more famous little brother, Shedeur, Tampa Bay Buccaneers rookie safety Shilo Sanders had a football life before his renowned father, Deion "Coach Prime" Sanders, was his coach.

Shilo committed to play at South Carolina out of high school but received offers from 14 other schools. In 2020, he played for coach Mike Bobo before Shane Beamer took over the program prior to the 2021 season.

The next four seasons, he played for his father and with his brother, splitting time at Jackson State and Colorado.

Now, he continues his football life, once again without his famous father, and he couldn't be more excited about it. Unlike his brother, who was drafted in the fifth round earlier this month, Shilo wasn't selected. He signed with the Bucs as an undrafted free agent, but he's not upset about not hearing his name called from the podium in Green Bay.

“Well, my take on being disappointed in ‘lows’ -- it’s not really ‘low’ because you can’t change the path and you can’t really do anything about something that already happened,” Sanders said, via Jenna Laine of ESPN. “So I just trust God, and I always end up doing something great so I just know it’s going to happen and whatever’s happening currently is to learn or to grow from.”

That sounds boastful, but …

Sanders also noted he's extremely thankful for his opportunity from Tampa Bay.

“The Bucs was the first team to call and they gave me a chance before anyone,” Sanders said. “So I’m forever grateful to the Buccaneers, and I’m just going to do everything I can to help this team win -- everything in my power to help this team win -- and that’s all I want.”
