Manchester United suffered yet another Premier League defeat on Friday, falling 1-0 to Chelsea at Stamford Bridge. Marc Cucurella scored in the second half of a testy match to put the Blues ahead, and eventually pull the side back into the Top 4 places in the table ahead of the final weekend.
Ruben Amorim’s side haven't won a Premier League match since March 16, a 3-0 win against relegated Leicester City, and will have a difficult time finding one next week against an Aston Villa team in the hunt for UEFA Champions League qualification as well.
United did start the match well, and found the net through Harry Maguire on a nice cross from Bruno Fernandes. Unfortunately, the VAR flagged the play for offside, with the graphic indicating Maguire’s shoulder was just ahead of the last defender.
The intensity from the Reds dropped off a bit going forward, largely because the avenues forward were limited by the Blues. Rasmus Hojlund was again poor receiving and holding up the ball for his teammates to get forward, Amad and Patrick Dorgu struggled to progress anything on the wings, and the spells of position were few and far between.
This defeat means that United have only taken 18 points on the road this season, by far the worst tally in the Premier League era.
Up next is the UEFA Europa League Final on Wednesday against Tottenham Hotspur in Bilbao, the only chance at a trophy and European football next season.
