49ers Make Purdy 'Relevant' with Monster $265 Million Contract

After all the sound and the fury, the San Francisco 49ers and Brock Purdy are in agreement on a contract extension as of Friday that allows the quarterback to jump from the paltry $2.6 million he earned in his first three NFL seasons to a monster deal.

How "monster''?

The Niners are giving him a five-year, $265 million deal that includes $181 million in overall guaranteed money, per reports.

And "Mr. Irrelevant" - as the last pick in the 2022 NFL Draft is known - is irrelevant no more.

The 49ers have benefitted from Purdy being good and affordable ... and thus one of the cheapest draft contracts money can buy.

Lucky for Purdy, he has proven his worth over three seasons in the league, already leading San Francisco to a Super Bowl. That rise now will earn him a more than respectable sum on this next contract. ... with a $53 million APY number.

A $50 million annual salary would have put Purdy just outside the top 10 in QB earnings for this season. ... so he is stepping up in class.

Philadelphia Eagles' Jalen Hurts has the 10th highest-paid deal at $51 million a year and Arizona Cardinals' Kyler Murray is 11th with a $46.1 million per season total.

Dallas Cowboys signal-caller Dak Prescott remains atop the league with his record-setting $60 million per year contract signed just before last season.

Did San Francisco hold major leverage in these negotiations? Maybe as the club had the right to franchise tag him up to two times if they please.

But that's pricy, too. And a conflict in the making.

Instead, resolving this before training camp is a benefit.

And now all Purdy has to do it prove - again - that he is a Super Bowl-caliber QB.
