While Barcelona celebrates a successful season capped with a domestic double and the Supercopa, plans for next year are already taking shape behind the scenes. Sporting director Deco, who brought in Hansi Flick and Dani Olmo, is now focused on strengthening the wings. In a recent interview, he admitted the team has relied too heavily on Raphinha and Lamine Yamal and needs more wide options.
At the top of Deco’s list is Liverpool FC’s Luis Díaz, according to a new report. The Colombian winger, who turned 28 in January, is viewed as the ideal profile to bring balance, experience, and attacking threat to a young Barça squad. Díaz has 41 goals and 23 assists in 146 games for Liverpool. While not overwhelming stats on paper, Barcelona appreciate his leadership and high-level experience.
Securing Díaz won’t be easy. Barcelona must stay within La Liga’s 1:1 spending rule, and the deal could surpass €80 million. Liverpool have already offered him a contract extension beyond 2027 and are unlikely to let another key player go easily, especially after losing Trent Alexander-Arnold to Real Madrid for free.
Nico Williams remains a secondary option, but Deco is prioritizing Díaz. He believes the Colombian’s maturity and quality make him the right fit to guide and complement the club’s emerging stars.
Other moves are expected. Deco has worked to retain key players and recently blocked Ronald Araújo’s potential move to Juventus. While the city continues to celebrate, Barcelona’s sporting staff are already focused on building a stronger, more complete squad for 2025-26.
