What Bruno Fernandes did in 40th minute vs Chelsea proves he is fed up with Man Utd teammate - Opinion

Friday night was another disappointing night in a long line of poor performances for Manchester United this season.

Despite starting well with Harry Maguire scoring an offside goal, it was ultimately an 18th loss of the season.

Manchester United were in second gear all night against Chelsea, with the players playing with one eye on Wednesday’s Europa League final.

It is the final that everyone is thinking about, which means the woeful run of eight games winless in the Premier League has been overlooked. But now, after United lost 1-0 to Chelsea, it is confirmed that the Red Devils will end the season without back-to-back league wins.

Ruben Amorim will have a massive amount of pressure on him at the beginning of the 2025/26 season, and he will be desperate for a big summer of additions to his squad.

Club captain Bruno Fernandes will also be hoping for one addition in particular, if his reaction to one teammate is anything to go by.

Bruno Fernandes was spotted having a go at Rasmus Hojlund for struggles vs Chelsea

If there is one United player who deserves a trophy this season, it is Fernandes, who deserves so much more from his teammates, considering the consistency he has shown while those around him flounder.

Fernandes, as all good leaders do, is known to hold his teammates accountable, and it was Rasmus Hojlund who was the subject of the 30-year-old’s frustrations on Friday night.

Hojlund was terrible against Chelsea, with some moments that will have left fans shaking their heads. Fernandes embodied these fans on the field in the 40th minute as Samuel Luckhurst spotted the borderline club legend glaring at Hojlund for a sloppy pass, which killed an attack.

Fernandes’ glare was only the beginning, as during the next break in play, he then rebuked Hojlund, having a go at the number nine.

This reaction to Hojlund is long overdue as the £64m player hasn’t been able to pass, duel, read the game, or finish this season, which is a big reason behind United sitting 16th in the league.

Ruben Amorim remains in support of Rasmus Hojlund

While Fernandes may be justifiably getting fed up with Hojlund, Amorim remains in full support of his striker, even if just temporarily, to give him confidence for the Europa League final.

Speaking with the press after the game, Amorim claimed he was happy with Hojlund.

“He fights for every ball, loses a lot of duels, wins some duels, he needs to improve the connection. He’s improving, I’m really happy with him, he just needs to continue to work hard.”

"It helped me to choose the starting XI" 👀

As much as he claims this is the case, it is hard to believe him considering how bad Hojlund has been for United this season. After the game, Amorim also admitted the loss had, “It helped [him] to choose the starting XI.”

If this is the case, surely Hojlund should not be starting. Instead, Garnacho or Kobbie Mainoo should start as the striker against Spurs.
