Referee Chris Kavanagh was taking no chances when Chelsea hosted Manchester United in the Premier League on Friday night.
Manchester United suffered their 18thPremier League defeat of the season, losing 1-0 to Chelsea at Stamford Bridge.
Ruben Amorim named a stronger line-up than most expected against Chelsea. The United head coach wanted to ensure his players kept their match sharpness ahead of the Europa League final against Tottenham Hotspur on Wednesday night, making just five changes to the line-up beaten by West Ham last weekend.
United thought they were handed an early lead before Harry Maguire’s half-volley was overruled for offside. Chelsea also thought they had won a penalty but VAR stressed that Andre Onana touched the ball and not Tyrique George when intercepting the ball.
Chelsea’s winner came from a Marc Cucurella header to boost their chances of Champions League qualification. The only way United can achieve that is by winning the Europa League as they remain 16th in the Premier League.

United’s trip to Stamford Bridge was brought to a halt due to an unexpected kit violation.
Rasmus Hojlund was caught red-handed for an offence he appeared to be none the wiser about.
The Denmark international appeared to be wearing a fitness tracker in the second half of the match, however, some reports suggest it was an Apple Watch.

It led to referee Chris Kavanagh pausing the game briefly and instructing the striker to remove the device.
Hojlund laughed it off as he made his way to the touchline to hand over the device to United staff.
Amorim didn’t look impressed when the camera panned to the touchline during the incident.
Unwanted stat for Hojlund from Chelsea defeat
The main statistic that applies to strikers is goals and Hojlund has not been providing enough of them since joining United.
Hojlund had a night to forget but one stat stands out as a sore one to take.
The 22-year-old had the least touches (26) of any outfield player to play 90 minutes.
Hojlund also lost the most duels (9) in the match.
