Liverpool are reportedly considering a surprise swoop for Chelsea’s £52m misfit Christopher Nkunku. But, they’ll have to beat out competition from Newcastle and a European giant.
PL Champions Liverpool keen on Chelsea Misfire Christopher Nkunku
Christopher Nkunku’s arrival at Chelsea has been ruined by injuries and poor form. And now it looks like the player will be leaving Stamford Bridge this summer. The 27-year-old forward was signed by the Blues for £52m from RB Leipzig. He is suffering from a recurring knee injury he got at the start of the season. That has been followed by a hamstring injury as well. So, he has got very limited game time with limited form for simply 17 goals in 56 matches.
According to reports from Foot Mercato, Chelsea are ready to offload Nkunku this summer. In addition, **Liverpoo**l have emerged as surprise contenders. With the futures of Darwin Nunez, Luis Diaz, and Diogo Jota all uncertain, and Federico Chiesa also on the radar, new manager Arne Slot may see Nkunku as a versatile and low-risk attacking addition.

Competition Heats Up as Newcastle and Bayern Join the Race
While the Reds are looking to make their move, they’re not alone in the race. Newcastle United have also shown strong interest in the player. They could enter a bidding war if they manage to free up their transfer budget.
However, the biggest threat to both Premier League clubs might come from abroad. Bayern Munich, who previously failed to sign Nkunku in January, are back in the mix. With Thomas Müller set to leave, the German champs are on the hunt for a creative attacker. Given Nkunku’s standout performances at RB Leipzig in his last two seasons, Bayern could offer him the perfect stage to revive his career. He netted 58 goals during his time with Leipzig.
Liverpool will hope that their recent Premier League title and Slot’s exciting vision can sway the Frenchman to stay in England. They could give him a fresh start at Anfield.
