Unai Emery’s brutal three-word assessment of Man Utd’s result vs Chelsea should rile up Ruben Amorim

Manchester United’s floundering Premier League continued to break new records of the worst kind with their latest loss but Unai Emery’s comments should hurt Ruben Amorim the most.

Chelsea were the latest team to win against Man Utd, a sentence that no longer feels strange because it seems to happen every week in the league.

Everyone knows that Ruben Amorim has one eye on the Europa League final to make it a season with something gained but the reputation domestically has taken a huge hit.

That was summed up by Unai Emery’s brutal three-word verdict on United’s result vs Chelsea after his Villa team beat United’s final opponents.

Unai Emery’s three-word Man Utd verdict

Emery’s Villa are an interesting case at this time because their last two games of the season come against the two Europa League finalists.

Spurs played a rotated team that was put to the sword by Villa, who are locked in a race for UCL qualification against Chelsea.

Therefore, they would have hoped United would help them out by forcing Chelsea to drop points at Stamford Bridge.

That hope would have been strengthened when Amorim fielded a full-strength XI, but if Emery’s words are any indication, United’s reputation is in tatters.

Speaking to the press after Villa’s win against Spurs, Emery said he checked his phone to see Chelsea’s result and the Blues had won as he “expected”.

He said: “Chelsea finished 1-0, we expected it. It’s not in our hands. We’re winning but so are they. They are getting their points.”

Ruben Amorim has a huge task ahead of him

Can Man Utd fans even imagine something like this being said about a team before this one? There isn’t even a need to go back to Sir Alex Ferguson’s days because this is unheard of.

An opposition manager chuckling and saying United lost “as expected” should rile up Ruben Amorim more than anything else.

With all due respect to Villa, it sounds even worse coming from them because they aren’t historical rivals of United in the Premier League era.

They are not United’s rivals this season either but it’s more because United have been atrocious instead of the other way around.

The results will need to pick up next season but most importantly, Amorim has a huge task in rebuilding the “aura” around Man Utd.

A club with such a massive pedigree can’t be allowed to remain a laughingstock any longer.
