Arsenal face Newcastle United in their final home match of the Premier League season on Sunday.
The Gunners have enjoyed a largely impressive campaign under Mikel Arteta, but the North London side have missed out on the league title once again and look set to finish second for the third consecutive campaign.
Arteta’s side also came close to reaching the Champions League final, but were denied by French champions Paris Saint-Germain at the semi-final stage.
Those in charge of the club’s recruitment, including new sporting director Andrea Berta, will likely want to bolster Arteta’s squad during the upcoming transfer window.
With that in mind, it appears that the Gunners have been handed a huge boost in their pursuit of one of Europe’s most prolific goal scorers.
According to Football Insider, Sporting CP striker Viktor Gyokeres is ‘happy’ to join Arsenal this summer.

The Swedish forward joined Sporting from Championship side Coventry City in 2023 and has since scored 95 goals in 100 games for the Portuguese side across all competitions.
It is claimed that Sporting are set to accept offers of around £60 million for the Sweden international, despite his release clause being set at £85 million.
Berta is said to be a long-term admirer of the striker, and the report suggests that talks between the two parties are advancing.
Arteta, however, is said to not yet be entirely convinced about Gyokeres and is instead keen on signing RB Leipzig star Benjamin Sesko.
Manchester United are also said to be interested in Gyokeres, who is likely to attract significant interest from clubs across Europe considering his prolific scoring record.
