It's been a rollercoaster offseason for everyone connected to San Francisco, a time of redevelopment for a franchise that has featured in two Super Bowls since 2020; so securing long-term stability at a position that's proved hit or miss for head coach Kyle Shanahan will be a relief.
Purdy was dubbed "Mr. Irrelevant" in the 2022 draft, and since then, his rise to the starting role has been meteoric. Purdy made his debut in Week 13 of his rookie year against the Dolphins, throwing for 210 yards and two touchdowns. Shanahan knew he had a star in the making and gave him the starting role ever since.
The Iowa State graduate has guided his 49ers to two conference championships, but he was still raw, now standing as a 27-year-old with his best years ahead of him, he'll be looking to go one better.
Purdy's contract averages out to roughly $53 million per year, ranking him as the eighth-best-paid QB in the entire NFL, ahead of Patrick Mahomes, Lamar Jackson, Justin Herbert and Jalen Hurts (per Spotrac).
But does this sum of money seem fair for a QB who's only played two and a half years of football?
Surprisingly YES! Despite his lack of experience, his maturity and decision-making for the position are sound. He's proved proficient at utilising his weapons at all levels, and as far as arm talent goes, tight window and deep ball bombs are nothing out of the ordinary.
So what's next for the 49ers? They're in a bit of a slump when it comes to expectations, too many high-end mouths to feed, and not enough cash to hand out, but this is what they've paid Purdy to do: exceed expectations and keep the franchise in the hunt for playoff football.
You can expect a big year for Purdy in 2025, although the team might not be all there to push for the NFC West title, the faith in his ability is prevalent, and his feel for the league is only improving.
Getting close to the ten-win mark will be a tall order, but with how well-rounded Brock's game is, it's nothing he can't achieve.
