Arsenal target’s price increases again to £86m

Benjamin Sesko’s price tag with RB Leipzig appears to have risen to £86m, with Arsenal among the clubs interested in signing the striker this summer.

Sky Sports News report that a club approached RB Leipzig over a potential move for Benjamin Sesko last week, and they were told that the German club would accept an offer of more than £86m.

Leipzig did add that the fee is negotiable, but the current figure is significantly higher than previous estimates.

Sky themselves had previously reported that Sesko’s release clause started at a little under £50m, but that appearances, goals, and assists could push it above £66m. But even that figure is £20m short of the fee now being claimed.

It’s hard to see what conditions Sesko could possibly have met to have the clause increase by over 70%.

He has 13 league goals and five assists with Leipzig this season, who have failed to qualify for the Champions League. He’s only scored three more goals in all competitions than he managed in 2023/24.

If Sesko’s release clause has indeed increased from £50m to £86m, the targets to bump up the fee must have been very easy to achieve.

Arsenal have been heavily linked with Sesko, and Sky Sports News also mention Chelsea, Liverpool, Juventus, Napoli, Real Madrid, Barcelona, and even Newcastle United as clubs watching the situation.

Though Newcastle’s interest has reportedly cooled in light of the fact they’re likely to qualify for the Champions League and hold onto Alexander Isak.

But at £86m, it’s hard to see Arsenal being seriously interested. The Gunners have plenty of other business to do, and they won’t have the funds for it if they have to spend so much on each individual position.
