Green Bay Packers Urged to Make Interesting Move for 58-Sack Pass Rusher

Ahead of the 2025 NFL season, there are only a couple of major positions of need for the [Green Bay Packers](https://totalpackers.com). On the outside looking in, they appear to be at pass rusher and cornerback.

Throughout the course of the offseason, the Packers opted to pass on pursuing a pass rusher in free agency. They drafted both Barryn Sorrell and Collin Oliver, but both players are going to be rookies and can’t be fully depended on.

With that being said, there are many who believe that Green Bay should pursue one of the remaining free agency options to add pass rushing help. Others believe that the team should still look to trade for Cincinnati Bengals’ star pass rusher Trey Hendrickson, who is still going through contract drama with his current team.

Should the Packers choose to go the free agency route, there is one specific name that they’re being urged to consider.

[Joseph Grassano of Dairyland Express](https://dairylandexpress.com/packers-should-take-chance-former-pro-bowl-edge-rusher-trying-revive-career-01jvd4pfz9a0) has urged Green Bay to consider signing Jadeveon Clowney, the former No. 1 overall pick who was recently released by the Carolina Panthers.

“Moreover, bringing Clowney in also gives both Sorrell, Kingsley Enagbare, and even Van Ness another mentor, who can help them develop. That would not only benefit Green Bay this season, but also going forward,” Grassano wrote.

“Nevertheless, the Packers may not be willing to pay his asking price. Carolina cut Clowney, entering the second year of his two-year $20 million contract. If the 32-year-old is looking for upwards of $10 million for one season, Green Bay should stay away. However, if he’s willing to take a pay cut, the Packers should highly consider adding him.”

Throughout his NFL career, Clowney has been a slight disappointment. When he was drafted at No. 1 overall back in the 2014 NFL Draft, many felt that he could be the best pass rushing prospect ever seen. His numbers have not reflected that hype.

In the 140 career games he has played, Clowney has racked up 409 total tackles to go along with 58 sacks, 15 forced fumbles, nine fumble recoveries, an interception, and 32 defended passes.

No one should expect to see Brian Gutekunst and the Packers sign Clowney. But, they also can’t be ruled out. He would be well worth taking a flier on if Green Bay decides to make a move.
