Chelsea Outcast Ben Chilwell Throws Shade at Blues as He Lifts FA Cup

Chelsea loanee Ben Chilwell seems to have taken a dig at his parent club after he won his first FA Cup with Crystal Palace. After the Eagles’ 1-0 win over Manchester City in the 2025 FA Cup final, Chilwell posted a photo of himself cradling the trophy on Instagram and captioned:

Finally got my hands on the FA Cup [laughing emoji] what a group!!!”

Chilwell previously experienced heartbreak in the 2021 FA Cup final for the Blues, as they were notably defeated 1-0 by his previous club, Leicester City. However, his campaign this term has been marred by inconsistency. He was taken out of the Blues’ first team by Enzo Maresca, and in the winter transfer window, he was sent on loan to Crystal Palace.

He has become a mainstay on Oliver Glasner’s side, as Palace won their first big trophy in the history of the club, dating back over a century. As his Chelsea future hangs in limbo, Chilwell’s Palace success may decide his next career move. His current form and recent performances can attract other clubs seeking an experienced left-back.

What Chilwell Said When He Left Chelsea for Crystal Palace

Ben Chilwell made a loan transfer from Chelsea to Crystal Palace in February 2025. The 28-year-old left-back, no longer in the Blues’ good books, was desperate to play game minutes again and help Palace achieve its ambitions.

Chilwell’s switch followed a difficult time at Chelsea, when he made only one appearance this season. It was a Carabao Cup bench appearance against Barrow in September. Under Enzo Maresca, he was told that he was not in the club’s plans going forward, and he was then dropped to the bench.

Speaking about his excitement at the new opportunity, Chilwell said when he joined Palace:

“I’m very excited to be here. Crystal Palace is a club that’s going in a great direction. You look at the last few months, with the results and how the team’s playing, and it was a no-brainer to make the decision to come here.”

Chilwell’s arrival at Selhurst Park was meant to offer Palace defensive protection, particularly in the wake of Chadi Riad’s season-ending knee injury. He has certainly played his part, helping them clinch the FA Cup.
